Map Lords

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we get most often. Can't find yours? Contact us.

Is Map Lords free?

Yes, completely. There is no sign-up, no in-game purchase and no paid content.

Do I need to download anything?

No. The game runs in your browser, on desktop, tablet or phone. You can also install it as an app with “Add to Home Screen” (mobile) or the install icon in the address bar (desktop).

How do you win a game?

When time runs out, the House holding strictly the most territories wins. If your castle is taken before that, your House collapses and you lose. Details are in the rules.

How do I play with friends?

In “Multiplayer”, create a room: the game gives you a 5-character code and a link to share. Your friends enter the code under “Join”. An online game always has 5 Houses: free seats are played by the AI. Up to 3 spectators can watch as well.

Can I join a game in progress?

Yes, as a spectator: you see the map but cannot act. You take a free seat at the next rematch.

What happens if a player disconnects?

The AI takes over their House and the game goes on. If the host leaves, the game stops for everyone, because it runs on their device.

How do I play on Discord?

Join a voice channel, open Activities (rocket icon) and pick Map Lords. Everyone in the activity lands in the same game: the first one hosts it, the others join automatically.

Is my game saved?

In solo, yes: your current game is stored on your device and resumes with “Continue game”. Online games are not saved.

Can I play offline?

After a first visit, solo mode works without a connection. Online play obviously needs the Internet.

Why can't I attack a neighboring House?

You are at peace with it. Open the Diplomacy tab and declare war. Free lands and barbarian camps can be attacked without any declaration.

Can I speed up or pause?

Yes in solo: pause, speed ×½, ×1, ×2 or ×4. On desktop, Space pauses and 1, 2, 3 change the speed. Time also slows down while you prepare an order.

Are there ads during the game?

No. The site's information pages (rules, guides…) may show ads, but never the game screen. There are no ads in the Discord Activity.

What data does the game collect?

Anonymous gameplay statistics, tied to a random ID created on your device. Everything is explained in the privacy policy.
